Felting is one of the oldest ways of making fabric.

It is thought to have been around for at least 8000 years.

It probably existed before spinning and weaving were used to make fabric.

No specialist tools are required for felt making.

Some of the words above have been written in red!
Why do you think they have been highlighted?

This part of the Fabulous Felt resource is an exploration, where a number of resources will help you develop some ideas on who might have discovered felting, and consider how, when, where, and why felting was discovered, and how, when, where, and why it has been used.

The author of this resource, Nicky Dunlop, has brought together some ideas that she has thought of or read about.

There are several sources of information on the Internet.

You may be able to talk to a felt maker who knows something about the history of felting.

You may be able to find information in a craft book or magazine.
